Generator simulation models are used to set safe operating limits, but standard procedures to calibrate these models require that the generator be taken off-line. Bonneville Power Administration used PMU data to calibrate its 1100 MW Columbia Generating Station model while it was operating and on-line, saving between $100,000 and $700,000 in operating costs.
